Vortex offers spotting scopes in the categories "good, better and best", and with the latest redesign the Viper HD 15-45x65 mm has moved up into "better still!" Fog proof, waterproof, fully multi-coated, includes neoprene case, no-sweat Vortex VIP warranty – it checks all the boxes. Some viewers miss the previous version’s dual focus knob, but most find that outweighed by the smooth helical focus combined with a perceptibly crisper, brighter image. The field of view allows for easy target acquisition, and the eye relief works even with sun or eyeglasses. While a 23-foot close focus won’t impress many people, it won’t deter many, either! And it’s true you can get a 60-mm class scope that’s 10 to 12 ounces lighter... at two to three times the price.
