Swarovski AX Visio 10x32

NEW from Swarovski Optik, the AX Visio is the first "smart" binocular. It's an EL 10x32 binocular with a built-in 13 MP camera and several unique features. The resident database (no cell connection necessary) currently covers over 9,000 species of animals including birds from around the world, mammals of Europe and North America, and dragonflies and butterflies of Europe. Additional third party apps are expected in the future. It connects by WiFi or Bluetooth to an app on your phone (iPhone or Android). Controls are simple and intuitive: a universal on/off button, > Menu button, and camera control. Partially depressing the camera button begins the autofocus process, with symbols to let you know whether the image is sufficiently large and sharp enough. The menu is shown (when needed) in red in the right ocular. You can preview and identify species, and if desired take photos or video with the 13 MP camera. Other features include a compass showing bearing and elevation and another that allows live sharing.

An eternal challenge is getting another birder onto a well-hidden bird in an obscure perch. One of the best features of the AX Visio lets you lock onto a stationary target with the press of a button, hand the AX Visio to the person next to you, and arrows will direct them right to the target!
