Product Overview
Leica Ultravid HD Plus 7x42
The Leica 7x42 Ultravid HD-PLUS was their flagship line until the Noctovid's premiered and it still belongs among the top shelf optics. Zeiss and Swarovski dropped their 7x42s, so Leica has the last premium in that configuration. Fan features include a 420-foot field of view and preternaturally bright images in the dimmest light. An 8x50 also has a 6 mm exit pupil, but some prefer the stability and “more natural” view by a 7x. Leica HDC and AquaDura coatings on all lenses, prisms with HighLux System and phase correcting coatings, and Schott HT Glass offer higher light transmission and bright, true color, high contrast images. The durable diecast magnesium chassis is waterproof to 16 feet. Eyeglasses wearers appreciate the generous 17 mm eye relief. The HD-PLUS 42 mm models are compact for full size binoculars and afford ergonomic handling and a steady grip. Some may call the 10.8-foot close focus old fashioned, but it’s fine for birding.
