Vortex's Viper HD 8x42 is a significant improvement over the original version! With HD/High Density glass (a.k.a. extra-low dispersion glass), one look is all you'll need to appreciate why the Viper HD is such a good seller. A smaller minimum IPD accommodates more viewers than the old version, and the 6.5-foot close focus is great for watching your feeders or butterflies. Proprietary XR fully multi-coated lenses help deliver bright, crisp details with excellent resolution and color fidelity. The 24.5-ounce weight is below average, while the 409-foot field of view is well above average. The rugged, compact 8x42 Viper HD is a real competitor in the $400 to $500 range.
