Cape May Bird Observatory's numerous fall monitoring projects start behind the scenes, much earlier in the year, with interviews to select the numerous personnel needed to conduct the counts and present interpretation. Most renowned is the Cape May Fall Hawk Watch, which begins its 45th year in Fall 2021. The 29th season of the Avalon Seawatch begins September 22, 2021. The Morning Flight, Montclair Hawk watch, and Monarch Monitoring Projects each have different but equally respected histories. For more information see https://njaudubon.org/watches/
One thing they have shared for the better part of a decade is sponsorship from Swarovski Optik N.A., which provides part of the financial support needed for staff and also all of the top-shelf binoculars, spotting scopes, and tripods needed for a rigorous two to three months of daily fieldwork. While those optics may see more hours afield between August and October (or November, or December) than most birders might accumulate in a year or more, they're designed to last a for a generation.
And that's where you come in. After the Monarch Monitoring Project and Morning Flight at Higbees Beach have done the last survey, after the final raptor has passed Cape May and Montclair Fall Hawk Watches, and finally after the Avalon Seawatch has counted the last seabird in December, you can continue to support them by purchasing these no-longer fresh off the shelf, but still fully-warranted Swarovski products. You realize significant savings, and CMBO is better positioned for taking the pulse of the next migration. That's a win-win in any birder's book!
Some of the "DemoWatch" optics and accessories which may be available include top-tier binoculars such as the Swarovski EL Swarovision FieldPro 8.5x42 and 10x42.
DemoWatch Swarovski spotting scopes available starting in December include the ATX 65 and ATX 85 objectives, and ATX Oculars. You can get a complete DemoWatch kit, or mix-and-match with new.
DemoWatch Swarovski tripods and heads which available include the CCT Compact Carbon Travel (folds shorter), PCT Professional Carbon Tripod, and CTH Compact Tripod Heads.
Supplies are limited each year, so check for remaining DemoWatch products on FeatherEdgeOptics.org or call the Northwood Center for information on availability.
